The Nikon F system developed over the years since 1959 and even today you can mount every lens made after 1977 (AI-standard) on the current line of digital SLRs. No other manufacturer offers this amount of backward compatibility.

My lens reviews reflect my subjective view on lenses that I have used or still use. The production figures are rough estimates based on a list of lens serial numbers that is available here: Lens Serial Number List by Roland Vink.

I have split my individual lens reviews into the following sections:

Manual focus Nikkor lenses:

Fix-focal lenses: 18-85mm and 105-1200mm / zoom lenses

Autofocus lenses: Fix focal lenses and zooms in the categories wide, normal, tele.

Lens comparisons:

An unusual comparison: Nikkor 28-45mm f/4.5 vs. 25-50mm f/4 vs. 28-50mm f/3.5 (on DX)
