Welcome to my website. This site is about my main hobby, photography. The focus of this site lies on photography with the Nikon F mount cameras, the selected shots from each year since 2001 (DSLR starting in 2006) are available in the gallery. The lens reviews in the "Lens reviews" section are my subjective evaluations regarding lenses that I have used over the past years. If you have questions or comments, feel free to drop me an e-mail. The longest fix focal lens ever build by Nikon is now included in the MF lens reviews: 1200mm f/11. (scroll down)

How does the picture rendering compare between D800 and D700? A quick comparison with two different motives:
D700, 25-50mm @25mm f/8, ISO 200
D800, 25-50mm @25mm f/8, ISO 200
D700, 135mm 3,5 @ f5,6, ISO 200
D800, 135mm 3,5 @ 5,6, ISO 200

All settings were on default with automatic matrix metering. D800 renders a bit warmer, but otherwise the colors are close.

A new lens got tested: AI 135mm 3,5. This one is definately better on the D800 than the 2,8 version and highly recommended!

After I have seen some of my lens pictures used in online auctions or forum posts, I decided to alter them in a way that makes it difficult to use them in buy/sell contexts.

More results are available for the D800: 20mm 3,5, 24mm 2,8, 55mm 1,2, 105mm 2,5, 35-70mm 3,5 62mm filter size, 80-200mm 4,5. As expected the wide lenses suffer. The zooms were a real nice surprise with very good performance. All lens ratings got sample pictures attached.

A few lens ratings got updated during the last days with D800 ratings. Way to go...

D700 vs. D800 ISO comparison, noise reduction off: ISO 1600, ISO 3200, ISO 6400, ISO 12800, ISO 25600,

Further tests with the D800 are done. Diffraction kicks in already at f/11. However, the level is not as dramatic as it was before at f/16 and 12 MP: Sample

Seven lens ratings (just the ratings, not the review text) were updated during this very exciting weekend: AF-D 20-35mm 2,8, AF-S 28-70mm 2,8, Sigma 150mm 2,8, 25-50mm 4,0, 50-135mm 3,5, 200mm 4,0, 400mm 5,6 IF-ED. I expect that some more of the classic lenses will become problems on the new high resolution sensors - as surprisingly the 50-135mm 3,5 and the 400mm 5,6 IF-ED did.

Review of the 85mm 2,0 is online. Lens ratings got a new layout and some were updated with new content. Content updates will continue during the next weeks.

04.02.2012

For a longer period of time no new lens reviews were posted on this site. During the first half this will most likely change as I got some new additions to my lens collection. I will try to try out a classical consumer zoom of the 90's (28-105mm), an often overlooked portrait lens (85mm 2,0 AI-S) and an ugly beaten-up copy of a rather popular tele lens (400mm 5,6 IF-ED AI). Especially the 400mm 5,6 will see some camera time during the next few weeks.

The lens reviews soetimes include historical pricing. To get this price into perspective now inflation adjusted prices are added (based on the german pricelists).
